Europe’s biggest FREE Black Music Event, Black Music Festival 2017 is returning to Potternewton Park on Sunday 27th August 2017 and it’s going to be awesome. This year’s line-up is better than ever and is packed full of artists over three stages to represent the diverse range in genres and talent prolific in black music today.

We’ll be kicking off with our four local UNSIGNED artists. This group of emerging acts were handpicked following local auditions and have been working in collaboration with a live band to perfect their performances ready to smash the main stage.

Following our UNSIGNED artists, we’ll be welcoming reggae royalty to the stage with performances for Black Music Festival 2017 from:

  • Peter Hunnigale
  • Vivian Jones
  • Carrol Thompson
  • Graft
  • Sons of Cedar
  • Janine Dyer

And flying in fresh from Jamaica – internationally acclaimed Reggae star Richie Spice.

As well as our three stages packed with diverse talent, including international and local DJs, we will have an abundance of stalls selling locally produced goods from your favourite home cooked food, to our famous rum punch; Black Music Festival 2016 is the perfect setting for a bank holiday family day out.

Heather Nelson CEO of Black Health Initiative, the charity running Black Music Festival said “this is an excellent opportunity for communities across Leeds to come together and have a family day out. Each year we are diversifying the acts and extending our reach to make sure that all genres of music of black origin have a place at Black Music Festival. We want to continue to engage with and appeal to a wider audience to make the Bank Holiday weekend celebrations as inclusive as possible. We can’t wait to see it all come together.”
